Iz zahvalnice u mom master raduFrom the acknowledgements of my master's thesis

I would like to express my gratitude to God and to my father, Professor Andrija Sarić. My father has always been there for me, continually helping me overcome every difficulty and never giving up on me, even when I was struggling to become a better version of myself. I would not have been able to complete this work without him. I carry him with me, and he may not realize how much he means to me. His absence is profoundly painful, yet I continue to search for him in everyone and everything. In the darkness, he remains my guiding light.

Njegov rad

His work

He spent his working life on power systems: how a grid runs, how it is controlled, and how to check that a model of it is right. Three threads run through his papers.

  • 1992–2017

Distribution networks. Power flow, voltage control and reactive power compensation, and state estimation: knowing what happens in a network that is measured in only a few places.

  • 1997–2012

Artificial intelligence in power systems. Fuzzy logic and neural networks in his 1997 PhD, and neural networks for dynamic equivalents of power systems at Northeastern, long before it was common.

  • 2013–2021

    Modeli velikih sistema

Redukcija dinamičkih modela i informaciona geometrija: kako proveriti i uprostiti model mreže iz merenja, sa Markom Transtrumom (BYU) i Aleksandrom Stankovićem (Tufts).

Models of large systems. Reducing dynamic models, and information geometry: checking and simplifying a model of the grid from measurements, with Mark Transtrum (BYU) and Aleksandar Stanković (Tufts).

Njegovim rečima

In his words

From his farewell to his own teacher, Milan S. Ćalović, in 2020.

Over the last 35 years Professor Ćalović gave me all kinds of tasks: homework, exams, a master’s, a doctorate, research, studies and more, and I always tried to do them well. At the end of his life, the professor left me this one too, the hardest. Dear and respected Milan, you taught us the profession, but also life, honesty and good manners. You were our professor, but also our companion and friend. We came to You for advice when we had big decisions to make. You were strict with those who worked with you, and stricter still with yourself. We all knew that when we met Your standards, what we had done was of world value. […] We are all forever grateful to You for everything we learned from You. Dear Milan, we will always carry a bright memory of You in our hearts.

I would advise everyone reading this to count your blessings and pray to God daily, and not wait for the moment when you actually need God.

If you studied or worked with him and would like to share a memory, write to me at the same address.
